Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), Mixed
Martial Arts (MMA) and Muay Thai are the three most important
technique elements of modern day fighting in sports competitions or street fighting. These techniques when combined with
regular training, Cross Training (XLFit) and Circuit Fitness
training transforms the amateur practitioner into a formidable
fighting machine. However most training academies focus
training their senior members, and fail to notice the progress of their junior or White Belt level beginners. The beginners are taught complex techniques in favour of strong foundation techniques, and they are generally overlooked during training. This leads to poor learning of skills and techniques and a build up of frustration in the junior White Belt beginners especially in early stages of training.
Excel Combat Academy however takes notice of this and provides a strong foundation, and arguably the best
training for the absolute beginner. The Excel Combat Academy's main trainer Rob Toman
considers Strong Basic Techniques are far superior to any poor complex or “fancy” techniques, and this has been the principle of providing the
strong foundation to the White Belt beginners of our club. Daily warm ups and drills are always done with the intention of improving and perfecting the
foundations of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), Muay Thai and Mixed Martial
Arts (MMA). Rob believes every attack has a defense
and every defense can be countered; Rob also believes that there is a
point of no return when defenses no longer work. The training
therefore focuses on improving submissions, defenses, counter attacks and importantly avoiding the point of no return.
Our club is a small club that focuses on the progress of each and every member. Every technique is taught and tested by seniors to ensure that they are perfected and used in the right manner. Questions are always answered and every trainee is considered important and made to feel like a part of a family.
We have produced a few BJJ medalists out of absolute beginners within a period of six months, and many young BJJ and MMA medalists in competitions in Sydney, NSW and competions elsewhere in Australia.
